Earl Grey History
Earl grey has been a staple for a long time, and is well known as a British favourite. However, like most teas, it actually originates in China. Earl grey tea was made popular by Charles Grey. He was the 2nd Earl of Grey and Prime Minister of Britain from 1830-1834. The most popular story of how Charles Grey brought earl grey tea into our modern lives goes like this:A British diplomat saved the life of a Chinese bureaucrat, and as a gift of gratitude, he was given the recipe of blending black tea with bergamot oil. When the diplomat returned home he presented the tea and the recipe to Charles, and the rest is history!
